On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin reached New Delhi to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit, with a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled during his visit.

The visit follows a meeting between PM Modi and President Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek last week.
During that interaction, PM Modi called for an end to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, urging the Russian President to move from an ‘endless war’ towards the ‘end of war’.
The upcoming talks will likely cover bilateral cooperation, strategic issues and international developments.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov had earlier said Putin would brief PM Modi on the situation in Ukraine.
Defence cooperation, including ongoing and proposed projects, will likely feature in the discussions.
India, which holds the BRICS chair in 2026, will host the summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13.
Leaders from BRICS member and partner countries, along with outreach invitees, are expected to attend.
According to the MEA, the summit will focus on strengthening cooperation among BRICS nations and exchanging views on regional and global issues of shared importance.
