India will conduct the summit during its 2026 BRICS chairship, with leaders from member and partner nations expected to participate alongside outreach invitees.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian feature among the prominent attendees expected in the national capital.
India has adopted ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability’ as the central theme of its BRICS chairship.
The theme reflects PM Modi’s people-focused approach, which places ‘Humanity First’ at its core.
The participating leaders will deliberate on strengthening cooperation within the grouping and exchange perspectives on significant regional and international developments.
BRICS consists of Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the UAE.
Belarus, Cuba, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam form its partner-country group.
India, a founding member, has previously led the grouping in 2012, 2016 and 2021. It began its fourth BRICS chairship on January 1, while 2026 marks 20 years since the grouping’s establishment.
Delhi Police has worked with multiple agencies to strengthen security arrangements ahead of the gathering.
Around 15,000 police personnel and 200 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed. Authorities have, however, issued advisories on routes facing temporary restrictions during VVIP movements.
India has conducted more than 350 meetings and high-level engagements during its current chairship. These initiatives have addressed political and security cooperation, economic and financial matters, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
