Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz have agreed to further expand India-Germany ties as the two countries mark 75 years of diplomatic relations.
The two leaders spoke by telephone on Thursday and reviewed areas with scope for deeper cooperation, including trade, investment, defence, clean energy, advanced technology and movement of skilled talent.
PM Modi described Germany as an important part of India’s engagement with Europe and a significant partner in efforts to promote international peace, stability and prosperity. He said both countries would continue building a forward-looking strategic partnership focused on delivering greater benefits for their people.

The conversation follows several high-level engagements between the two countries.
In June, PM Modi met Merz on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, France, where they discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the leaders reviewed progress in their bilateral engagement and welcomed renewed momentum in the strategic partnership following Merz’s visit to India and the conclusion of India-European Union Free Trade Agreement negotiations earlier this year.
Their earlier discussions covered international developments, including the situation in West Asia and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Separately, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met German parliamentarian Jurgen Hardt in New Delhi last month. Their talks covered developments in the Gulf, West Asia and Ukraine, as well as the broader India-Germany strategic relationship.
The latest PM Modi-Chancellor Merz conversation comes as both countries commemorate 75 years of diplomatic ties, with trade, technology, defence and energy emerging as key areas for future cooperation.
