Admiral Aleksandr Alekseyevich Moiseyev, the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, arrived in India on Monday for a four-day official visit aimed at fortifying the naval collaboration between the two countries.
This visit, which will continue until 22 August, underscores the deep-rooted maritime partnership between India and Russia.
An official statement highlighted that the visit marks a significant milestone in the enduring naval relationship between the two nations.
The Indian Navy and the Russian Navy have long cooperated across various dimensions, including operational exercises, training programs, hydrographic studies, and the exchange of subject matter experts.
The India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military Technical Cooperation (IRIGC M&MT) facilitates these interactions.
During his visit, Admiral Moiseyev met with Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi.
The discussions focused on enhancing collaborative mechanisms and exploring new opportunities for naval cooperation.
A ceremonial Guard of Honour at the South Block lawns honored the Russian Admiral, highlighting the significance of the occasion.
The Indian Navy has consistently engaged with the Russian Navy through various multilateral forums, including the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS), MILAN, the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), the Western Pacific Naval Symposium (WPNS), and the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus).
In New Delhi, Admiral Moiseyev will also meet with top defense officials, including the Chief of Defence Staff, the Defence Secretary, the Vice Chief of the Air Staff, and the National Maritime Security Coordinator.
These meetings however are part of a broader agenda to bolster defense cooperation between the two nations.
Following his engagements in the capital, Admiral Moiseyev will travel to Mumbai.
There, he will hold discussions with the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command, and visit key naval facilities including indigenous warships, submarines, the naval dockyard, and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd.
Admiral Moiseyev, who began his naval career in the Soviet era as a submariner, has commanded the Black Sea Fleet and the Northern Fleet.
He assumed the role of acting Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy in March 2024, succeeding Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov.
The visit of Admiral Moiseyev is likely to further strengthen the strategic naval ties between India and Russia, paving the way for enhanced maritime collaboration in the future.
