Rouse Avenue Court Reserves Bail Order In Delhi Coaching Centre Flood Case

The Rouse Avenue Court has reserved its decision on the bail pleas of four co-owners linked to the flood deaths of three IAS aspirants at a coaching centre in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi. The court will announce its order on August 23. The co-owners—Parvinder Singh, Tajinder Singh, Harvinder Singh, and Sarabjit Singh—filed their bail applications on August 6.

Serious Charges Against Accused

The accused face charges under Sections 105, 106 (1), 115 (2), 290, and 3 (5) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS), 2023. Rajinder Nagar police registered the case on July 27, and authorities arrested the accused on July 28. The Sessions Court at Tis Hazari denied their bail plea on August 5, 2024, following the High Court’s order to transfer the case to the CBI. The Metropolitan Magistrate had previously rejected their bail applications on July 31, 2024.

Claims of Court Oversight

The accused claim the Metropolitan Magistrate overlooked key details. They assert that they were not named in the FIR and had cooperated fully with the police. They argue that their lease deed for the basement and third floor complied with MCD norms. The accused also dispute the use of Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), arguing there was no intent or knowledge of wrongdoing.

On July 27, heavy rains flooded the basement of Rau’s IAS Study Circle, drowning Shreya Yadav (25) from Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni (25) from Telangana, and Navin Delvin (24) from Kerala.
