Rosh Hashanah 2026: President Murmu, PM Modi Extend Greetings To Israel, Jewish Communities

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday conveyed their Rosh Hashanah wishes to Israel, its leaders and Jewish communities around the world.

President Murmu addressed Israeli President Isaac Herzog and the Israeli people, extending her hopes for a peaceful and prosperous year ahead.

Taking to X, President Murmu posted, “Excellency @Isaac_Herzog, On behalf of the people of India, I convey heartfelt #RoshHashanah greetings to you and the Jewish community across Israel and the world. May the new year usher in peace, prosperity, good health and renewed hope for all.”

PM Modi separately sent his greetings to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the people of Israel and Jewish communities across the globe.

Jewish communities observe Rosh Hashanah as their New Year, with the occasion traditionally referred to as the ‘head of the year’.

The festival commemorates the anniversary of the creation of the world and represents an important religious and cultural occasion.

The messages came as India and Israel continue to maintain close engagement.

Israeli Ambassador to India Reuven Azar had last month outlined six core values that he said give the bilateral relationship its distinctive character.

Azar described the partnership between the two countries as ‘very special and unique’ while explaining the principles underpinning their ties. He identified ‘civilizational resilience and national revival’ as the first shared value, pointing to the historical challenges both civilisations faced from foreign powers over centuries.

The Rosh Hashanah greetings underline India’s engagement with Israel while conveying wishes for peace, wellbeing and progress for people celebrating the Jewish New Year.
