Veteran Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Sukhendu Sekhar Roy has approached the Calcutta High Court for protection against police action. On Monday, Roy sought relief from arrest and other coercive measures related to his social media post about RG Kar tragedy in Kolkata.
The single-judge bench of Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj has admitted Roy’s petition. In his plea, Roy expressed concerns about potential arrest by the police.
Roy’s social media post, which went viral on Sunday morning, demanded the custodial interrogation of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal and former R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital Principal Sandip Ghosh by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Following this, Roy received a notice from Kolkata Police for interrogation at their headquarters. Since he did not comply, the police issued a second notice for his appearance.

On Monday morning, Roy filed his petition with the Calcutta High Court seeking protection from arrest.
Meanwhile, Roy continued to voice his dissent on social media with two consecutive posts, calling for more robust protest actions on the issue.
In addition to Roy, the city police have issued interrogation notices to two respected city doctors for social media posts deemed objectionable. These doctors are expected to report to the police headquarters later today.
Additionally, Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh visited the CBI’s Salt Lake office on Monday morning. Ghosh claimed that some junior and former medical students from R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital had given him information related to the case, which he intends to share with CBI officials.
