The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is making significant strides in the probe into the horrific rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College.
Investigators are now focusing on recovering deleted data from the mobile phones of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the medical college, and Abhijit Mondal, the former Station House Officer (SHO) of Tala Police Station.
According to insiders, crucial evidence, including messages exchanged between Ghosh and Mondal on 9 August; the day the officials discovered victim’s body in a seminar hall was deliberately erased to conceal their communication trail.
Investigators are working to retrieve these deleted communications, which they believe are key to unravelling the full scope of their involvement.
Additionally, the investigators also aim to recover call recordings between Ghosh and Mondal from the morning of 9 August until the victim’s body cremated later that night.
The deleted recordings likely offer substantial evidence and may potentially implicate both men in tampering with the evidence.
Recovering Conversations Could Implicate Ghosh & Mondal
Sources close to the investigation say that the CBI believes recovering these conversations will significantly strengthen the case against Ghosh and Mondal, particularly regarding allegations of interfering with the initial probe conducted by the Kolkata Police and attempting to cover up critical evidence after authorities discovered the victim’s body.
Legal maneuvers have also added to the complexity of the investigation.
Last week, Mondal refused to undergo a polygraph test, prompting the CBI to seek court intervention in the matter.
Meanwhile, Ghosh, who initially agreed to a polygraph test, declined a narco-analysis test, raising suspicions over their potential knowledge of the crime and efforts to obscure the truth.
The CBI, which took over the case after the Calcutta High Court handed it to them from local authorities, is now racing against time to uncover the digital trail and bring the accused to justice.
The investigation continues to capture public attention as authorities piece together the events that led to the tragic death of the junior doctor, a case that has sparked outrage across the medical and civil communities.
