RG Kar Case: Sanjay Roy, the only arrested suspect in the rape and murder of a doctor from RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, will be presented virtually at a special court in Kolkata on Friday. Authorities decided to avoid a physical appearance due to public outrage and security concerns.
Virtual Presentation for Security Reasons
Roy, who has been in judicial custody since August 23, will appear virtually as his 14-day remand expires. The decision comes after prison authorities sought court approval, citing the difficulty of providing detailed security every time Roy is presented in court.
During his last appearance, the court was heavily guarded, and media personnel were not allowed inside. This time, the virtual appearance is intended to prevent any potential disruptions or security risks.
Investigation Handed to CBI
Roy was initially arrested by the Kolkata Police’s special investigation team. However, following a Calcutta High Court order, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the case. Roy was transferred to Presidency Central Correctional Home after the CBI custody ended on August 23.
CBI officials have conducted polygraph tests on Roy, with inconsistencies detected in his statements during both normal questioning and the tests.
