Re-polling at 15 polling booths across two Assembly constituencies in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district began at 7 AM on Saturday and has remained peaceful so far.
The process is being conducted under extensive security arrangements, with central forces supported by state police personnel ensuring smooth voting.
The combined voter turnout across all 15 booths reached 16.23 per cent within the first two hours, up to 9 AM, according to official data.
In the Magrahat (Paschim) Assembly constituency, which accounts for 11 of the re-polling booths, the turnout stood at 16.58 per cent by 9 AM.
The four booths under the Diamond Harbour constituency, however, recorded a slightly lower turnout of 15.83 per cent during the same period, as reported by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, West Bengal.
Voters present in queues at various booths in both constituencies reported a calm atmosphere, indicating no signs of unrest during the re-polling process.
Despite the peaceful environment, some voters in Magrahat (Paschim) questioned the need for re-polling, stating they had not witnessed any violence during the original polling held on April 29.
Re-polling is taking place at booths numbered 46, 126, 127, 128, 142, 214, 215, 216, 230, 231, and 232 in Magrahat (Paschim), and booths 117, 179, 194, and 243 in Diamond Harbour.
Voting will likely continue until 6 PM, with provisions allowing all voters in line by that time to cast their ballots.
The constituencies formed part of the second phase of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly election, which took place on April 23 and April 29. Counting of votes will take place on May 4, with results declared the same day.
