Raipur Hosts Soldierthon Marathon To Honor Indian Army And Promote Fitness

Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, hosted a vibrant event today – the Federal Bank Naya Raipur Soldierthon. The event saw participation not just from Chhattisgarh, but from across India, with the Fitistan-Ek Fit Bharat and Soldierthon Marathon programs drawing a large crowd.

The Soldierthon Marathon, organized by the Indian Army in collaboration with the Chhattisgarh government, was held to salute the bravery of the Indian Army. It took place at Central Park in Naya Raipur, with General VK Singh attending as a special guest. He flagged off the marathon and encouraged the participants.

During a conversation with Bharat Express, General VK Singh expressed his shock at the actions of Bangladesh. He said, “No one ever thought that the Bangladesh we helped create would do this to us.” He reminded everyone of India’s victory in 1971, when the Indian Army defeated Pakistan and helped establish Bangladesh in just 13 days.

Major Surendra Punia, founder of Fitistan-Ek Fit Bharat and Soldierthon, explained that the event marked the 53rd anniversary of India’s victory in the 1971 war with Pakistan. He expressed gratitude to the people of Chhattisgarh for their enthusiastic participation. He confirmed that the campaign to promote fitness and respect for the Army would continue.

The marathon featured races for all levels, including 21 km, 10 km, 5 km, and a 3 km walk. People of all ages, from children to the elderly, took part in the event. Many participants arrived at Central Park before sunrise, eager to join in.

A special exhibition showcased war relics from the 1971 Indo-Pak war. Military artifacts, photographs, and memorabilia allowed attendees to connect with the history and sacrifices of Indian soldiers during the conflict. General VK Singh, former Army Chief, was the chief guest and received a warm welcome from the crowd.

The event saw a diverse group of attendees, including army officers, jawans, Chhattisgarh police, former army officers, players, children, and civilians. A cheque of Rs 19,63,284 was also presented to the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Center.
