Aditya Thackeray Demands Inquiry Into Rs 12,000 Crore Road Scam; Excludes Shinde From Cabinet

Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aditya Thackeray accused former Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and two ex-ministers of being involved in a Rs 12,000 crore road scam. He urged Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to keep them out of the cabinet.

In a post on X, Thackeray wrote, “If the BJP government is serious about addressing the road scam, they must exclude the illegal CM Shinde and the two guardian ministers, Lodha and Kesarkar, from the cabinet.”

Thackeray also alleged that the BJP had highlighted poor road work and called for an SIT probe. He claimed this confirmed his point that the Shinde regime was involved in two road scams worth ₹12,000 crores.

He stated that taxpayers’ money was wasted, benefiting contractors and politicians. Thackeray added that he had been exposing the scam for the last two years, but the BJP had supported Shinde’s regime. He now called for a formal inquiry into the scam.

The BJP-led Maharashtra government is set to expand its cabinet in Nagpur on Sunday, with several new faces expected.

The project to repair 700 km of roads, aimed at fixing Mumbai’s pothole problem, was launched under Shinde’s leadership. He also handled the Urban Development portfolio during this time.

Thackeray claimed there was cartelization in the awarding of contracts. The BJP has called for an SIT probe into these road contracts, and Thackeray demanded an EOW investigation.

Mumbai BJP Chief Ashish Shelar also raised concerns. He met BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani to push for the formation of an SIT. Shelar also called for an audit of 40% of the concretized road patches, with experts from IIT Mumbai and VJTI.
