Dedicating India’s First 9,000 HP Locomotive In Dahod
In Dahod, PM Modi will dedicate to the nation the first 9,000 HP locomotive engine produced at the newly established railway production unit.
Built under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, this factory was developed at a cost of Rs 20,000 crore and operates on a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The Dahod facility plans to manufacture approximately 1,200 engines over the next decade, which will be exported globally.
Currently, four locomotives are in production, each proudly bearing the inscription “Manufactured by Dahod.”
Innovative Features And Economic Impact In Gujarat
Notably, the 9,000 HP locomotive can haul up to 4,600 tonnes of freight.
For the first time, the engine includes air conditioning and toilet facilities for the driver, enhancing comfort and safety. Moreover, it features a cover system designed to prevent accidents.
The project will generate direct and indirect employment for around 10,000 people in Dahod and neighbouring areas, significantly boosting the local economy.
Additionally, the lowest bidding multinational companies will have opportunities to supply goods to both small and large firms in the power and engineering sectors involved in producing the Revo engines.
Technical Specifications And Maintenance
The 6-axle electric locomotive achieves an average speed of 75 km/h. Maintenance for the engines will take place at depots located in Kharagpur (West Bengal), Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Raipur (Chhattisgarh), and Pune (Maharashtra).
This visit underscores the Prime Minister’s continued focus on advancing India’s industrial capabilities and regional development.
