Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate Rewa’s first airport on 21 October, marking a historic milestone for the Vindhya region.
The inauguration will be part of a larger event where PM Modi is likely to launch several airports from Varanasi, giving a boost to air connectivity across the country.
State Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, who hails from Rewa, announced that the Prime Minister would preside over the virtual inauguration.
The newly constructed Rewa airport is about 140 kilometers from Prayagraj (Allahabad), enhancing transport options for both residents and tourists in the region.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, alongside cabinet ministers, will be present on-site at Rewa airport during the virtual ceremony.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, credited with initiating the airport’s development during his tenure, has also invited to the event.
The development of the Rewa airport has been in the works for several years, with Rajendra Shukla advocating for it since 2014. Although the airstrip has existed for decades, the project gained momentum only recently.
The formal announcement of the airport’s development came just before the 2023 state elections, showcasing the government’s focus on infrastructure in remote areas.

“Rewa airport is a big achievement in the Vindhya region. It will have a landing facility for up to 72-seater aircraft. The airport will promote tourism in the Vindhya belt. It will also provide impetus to medical, engineering, education, trade and industries,” Rajendra Shukla stated.
The airport is likely to serve as a catalyst for economic growth in the region, providing better connectivity and reducing travel time to key destinations.
Madhya Pradesh’s aviation infrastructure is rapidly expanding with this new addition.
Rewa airport will join the ranks of existing airports in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, and Khajuraho, bringing the total number of operational airports in the state to six.
Preparations for the airport’s inauguration are already underway.
On Friday, Deputy Chief Minister Shukla reviewed the final arrangements, ensuring all necessary steps are taken for a seamless opening.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had granted the operating license for Rewa airport in early September, allowing it to handle both passenger and cargo flights.
As part of the government’s push for regional connectivity, the Rewa airport is expected to significantly improve access to the Vindhya belt, promoting local trade and attracting investment.
This new infrastructure is also likely to provide an alternate route for industries operating in and around the region.
With this airport, the region is to witness a new era of development, creating job opportunities and better access to essential services.
