On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the iconic Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat.

This event marked a significant occasion as it coincided with the observance of National Unity Day, also known as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas.

After laying a wreath at the towering statue, PM Modi led a Unity Oath ceremony, emphasizing the importance of harmony and integrity among the diverse cultures of India.

The Prime Minister then participated in the Unity Day Parade at the Parade Ground in Kevadia, which showcased a vibrant display of national pride and solidarity.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “On the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, I offer my heartfelt respects. The unity and sovereignty of the nation were the highest priorities of his life. His personality and deeds will continue to inspire every generation of the country.”

The Unity Day Parade featured an impressive array of 16 marching contingents representing nine states and one Union Territory, along with four Central Armed Police Forces, and a spirited National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit.

Additionally, among the highlights were a breathtaking ‘Hell March’ by the National Security Guard (NSG), thrilling performances by the Border Security Force (BSF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) motorcycle teams, demonstrations of traditional Indian martial arts, and a spectacular flypast by the Indian Air Force’s Surya Kiran team.

National Unity Day

31 October is National Unity Day in honor of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who played a pivotal role in unifying India’s 562 princely states after independence.

His contributions as the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister from 1947 to 1950 laid the foundation for a unified Republic of India.

Born on this day in 1875 in Nadiad, Gujarat, Patel’s enduring influence is celebrated through various ‘Run for Unity’ events held across the country since 2014, drawing participation from citizens of all backgrounds.

This year’s celebration underscores the continued relevance of Patel’s vision for unity and the collective strength of India as it moves forward.
