National Unity Day
31 October is National Unity Day in honor of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who played a pivotal role in unifying India’s 562 princely states after independence.
His contributions as the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister from 1947 to 1950 laid the foundation for a unified Republic of India.
Born on this day in 1875 in Nadiad, Gujarat, Patel’s enduring influence is celebrated through various ‘Run for Unity’ events held across the country since 2014, drawing participation from citizens of all backgrounds.
This year’s celebration underscores the continued relevance of Patel’s vision for unity and the collective strength of India as it moves forward.
