New Delhi, Sep 1: President Droupadi Murmu unveiled the new flag and insignia of the Supreme Court on Sunday to mark the 75th anniversary of its establishment.
President Murmu Commends Supreme Court’s Role
At the valedictory session of the National Conference of District Judiciary, President Murmu praised the Supreme Court for its vital role as the guardian of India’s judicial system. She noted that the Supreme Court has enhanced the respect for Indian jurisprudence.
Murmu appreciated the Supreme Court’s efforts over the past 75 years in strengthening public trust in the judicial system. She emphasized the moral responsibility of judges and judicial officers to uphold dharma, truth, and justice.
Challenges and Future Directions for District Judiciary
President Murmu highlighted that district courts shape public perception of the judiciary. She stressed the need for sensitivity, promptness, and affordability in delivering justice at the district level.
While acknowledging recent improvements in infrastructure and resources, Murmu noted that challenges like case pendency and backlogs remain. She suggested organizing special Lok Adalat weeks more frequently to address these issues and recommended providing justice in local languages and conditions.
Murmu called for collaboration between the judiciary, government, and police to resolve issues related to evidence and witnesses. She expressed confidence that new criminal justice laws would usher in a new era of justice for India.
