Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the nation on Saturday on India’s 80th Independence Day, saying that ‘powered by 140 crore Indians’, the country is scaling new heights of progress across various sectors. He also paid tribute to the countless freedom fighters whose courage and sacrifice ended colonial rule.
In a post on X, PM Modi remembered the freedom fighters and said their dreams continue to inspire India’s efforts to build a Viksit Bharat.
The Prime Minister highlighted the country’s development journey and credited its citizens for driving progress across different sectors. He expressed hope that India would maintain and accelerate this momentum in the years ahead.

PM Modi’s message came as the country celebrated its 80th Independence Day, with events taking place across India. He is leading the national celebrations at the historic Red Fort in Delhi, where he is unfurling the Tricolour and addressing the nation.
This year’s celebrations focus on the 150th anniversary of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ and the role of ‘Yuva Shakti’ in building a developed India by 2047.
For the first time, NCC cadets and My Bharat Volunteers will participate in a mass singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ at the Red Fort.
PM Modi’s address also marks a significant milestone as he delivers his 13th consecutive Independence Day speech from the Red Fort, setting a new record among non-Congress Prime Ministers.
The celebrations feature the unfurling of the national flag, a 21-gun salute and a ceremonial showering of flowers from a helicopter, followed by the Prime Minister’s address.
The programme also highlights the aspirations and contribution of India’s youth towards achieving Viksit Bharat @ 2047.
