Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to ignite the BJP’s election campaign for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections with a high-profile rally in Kurukshetra this Saturday.
The event marks the start of the BJP’s bid to secure a third consecutive term in the state, ahead of the 5 October elections.
Scheduled to commence at 2 PM at the Theme Park, the rally will serve as a crucial platform for PM Modi to rally support for the BJP’s 23 candidates contesting in districts along the GT Road belt, including Panchkula, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Panipat, and parts of Yamunanagar, Sonipat, and Kaithal.
This region, historically a BJP stronghold, witnessed a significant challenge in the 2019 Assembly elections when Congress claimed 14 seats in this belt.
Observers will closely scrutinize the BJP’s efforts to retain control.
Joining PM Modi at the rally will be key party figures including Union Ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, as well as BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda.
Their involvement underscores the party’s strategic focus on mobilizing support and reinforcing unity ahead of the polls.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, contesting from Ladwa in Kurukshetra, has been actively campaigning across the state to consolidate BJP’s position and ensure a favorable outcome.
In preparation for the rally, extensive security measures are in place, with 2,500 police personnel, including eight Superintendents of Police, assigned to ensure the Prime Minister’s safety.
Meanwhile, the BJP’s previous performance in Haryana has been mixed.
BJP’s 2019 Haryana Performance & 2024 Campaign Strategy
In the 2019 elections, the party secured 40 seats, falling short of the 75-plus target and lacking a majority in the 90-member Assembly.
This led to an alliance with the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), which won 10 seats, while Congress captured 31 seats.
The BJP’s initial success in Haryana in 2014, where it won 47 seats, remains a benchmark for its current campaign strategy.
