Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tribute to Srimad Sudhindra Tirtha Swamiji on his birth centenary, noting that the revered spiritual leader devoted his life to service and spirituality.

In a message shared on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister said that Swamiji’s teachings continue to inspire people through their emphasis on simplicity, kindness, and righteousness. He also highlighted the seer’s contributions to education and cultural preservation.

Srimad Sudhindra Tirtha Swamiji served as the head of the Shri Kashi Math Samsthan in Varanasi and was the 20th seer in its guru tradition. He led the institution for decades after assuming the role in 1949, becoming its longest-serving pontiff.

Born in Ernakulam in 1926 as Sadhasiva Shenoy, he pursued studies in science before embracing a spiritual path. He was initiated into sanyas in 1944 by his guru, Sukrateendra Tirtha Swamiji and later succeeded him as head of the Math.

Throughout his life, he established institutions and research centres, promoting education and spiritual values. He also played a significant role in preserving India’s cultural heritage and value systems.

Swamiji contributed to the development of several temples across the country, including in Kasaragod, Gurupura, Mangaluru, Mumbai, Uppinangadi, and Moodbidri, leaving behind a lasting spiritual and cultural legacy.

The Prime Minister’s tribute underscores the enduring influence of Srimad Sudhindra Tirtha Swamiji’s teachings, which continue to inspire faith, service, and cultural continuity across generations.
