PM Modi Urges Indians To Combat Obesity With Better Lifestyles

During his Independence Day speech, PM Modi cautioned citizens about the increasing rates of obesity in India. He noted that sedentary habits and excessive cooking oil consumption are key contributors.

“We must stay away from becoming fat,” he said, stressing the need for a nationwide shift in dietary and lifestyle practices.

The Prime Minister encouraged households to make small yet significant changes.

“Families should decide to use 10 per cent less cooking oil,” he urged, linking personal dietary choices to broader national well-being.

These remarks complement government initiatives such as Fit India, POSHAN Abhiyaan, and Eat Right India, aimed at fostering preventive healthcare and nutrition awareness.

Promoting Sports & Fitness

PM Modi also emphasised the role of sports in nurturing a healthier and confident generation.

He observed, “There was a time when parents didn’t like children to play. Now they encourage it. This is a good sign.”

Highlighting the Khelo India policy, he stressed the importance of creating a comprehensive sports ecosystem accessible to children in even the most remote regions.

In addition to health, the Prime Minister announced significant development projects worth thousands of crores for eastern India.

“We want to give priority to the backwards areas. There should be development in every sphere of life,” he stated, reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and balanced regional development.

PM Modi’s address blended public health, development, and cultural transformation.

By urging citizens to adopt healthier diets, increase physical activity, and prioritise preventive healthcare, he framed personal responsibility as integral to national progress. His message highlighted that true freedom encompasses not only political sovereignty but also a commitment to well-being, equitable growth, and a healthier future for all.

As India celebrates its 79th year of independence, the Prime Minister’s call to action seeks to instil behavioural change, reduce lifestyle-related health risks, and strengthen the country’s preventive healthcare framework. Through combined efforts in nutrition, fitness, and grassroots sports development, India is poised to cultivate a healthier, more vibrant generation.

This structured approach reinforces the government’s vision of linking citizen health with national prosperity while celebrating the nation’s achievements.
