Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura on Monday to unveil a wide range of infrastructure and development initiatives.
In Itanagar, the PM will lay foundation stones for projects worth over Rs 5,100 crore, including two large hydroelectric ventures.
After concluding his programme in Arunachal Pradesh, the Prime Minister will head to Tripura. His schedule there includes the inauguration of development works at the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur.
The event, lasting around 45 minutes, will centre on the temple’s cultural and spiritual importance. While religious rituals will take place, no public address has been planned.
The Prime Minister will land at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala, travel by helicopter to Palatana, and continue by road to the temple site.
According to a senior official, he will also lay the foundation stone virtually for two major hydroelectric projects with a combined capacity of 426 MW. The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) will carry out both schemes.
The ventures consist of the 240 MW Heo Hydro Electric Project and the 186 MW Tato-I Hydro Electric Project.
NEEPCO, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, is implementing these in partnership with the Arunachal Pradesh government.
The Heo project, with three units of 80 MW each, will likely generate around 1,000 MUs annually from its site in the Shi Yomi district’s Siyom sub-basin.
The Tato-I project, also with three units, will add another 803 MUs every year.
Officials said the two schemes, costing more than Rs 3,700 crore, are to harness Arunachal Pradesh’s significant hydro potential and boost sustainable power generation.
Alongside supporting India’s clean energy targets, the initiatives are likely to create jobs and foster economic progress in the region.
The projects also contribute to the national goal of achieving ‘Viksit Bharat by 2047’. They will likely strengthen the power sector across the country.
Since its establishment in 1976, NEEPCO has played a key role in electricity generation across the Northeast. Today, it functions as a Mini Ratna Category-I enterprise with a continued focus on unlocking the region’s hydro resources.
