Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two large-scale highway projects in Delhi on Sunday. The projects are aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving connectivity across the capital and nearby regions.
The projects, with a combined budget of nearly Rs 11,000 crore, will be officially opened at 12:30 PM in Rohini. Following the inauguration, the Prime Minister will address the public.
The first project, the Delhi portion of the Dwarka Expressway, stretches 10.1 km and was developed at a cost of approximately Rs 5,360 crore.
It is designed to connect key transport hubs, including Yashobhoomi and the DMRC Blue and Orange Lines. It will also link the upcoming Bijwasan railway station and the Dwarka Cluster Bus Depot.
This section is divided into two segments:
- 5.9 km from Shiv Murti intersection to Dwarka Sector-21, and
- 4.2 km from Dwarka Sector-21 to the Delhi-Haryana border
The Haryana section of the expressway, covering 19 km, was inaugurated by PM Modi earlier in March 2024.
The second project, the Alipur to Dichaon Kalan stretch of Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), also includes new connections to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat.
Built at a cost of around Rs 5,580 crore, it is expected to ease traffic on Delhi’s Inner and Outer Ring Roads. It will also reduce congestion at busy junctions such as Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-09.
By providing direct access to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, UER-II will
- Streamline industrial transportation,
- Facilitate goods movement, and
- Reduce travel time in the NCR
Together, these two projects demonstrate the government’s commitment to developing modern infrastructure, enhancing mobility, and improving the quality of urban life in Delhi.
