Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Sikkim on April 27–28 to take part in the state’s Golden Jubilee celebrations and unveil projects valued at more than ₹4,000 crore. The visit aims to accelerate development and strengthen key sectors in the region.
Arrival and Schedule
The Prime Minister will land in Gangtok on April 27 and engage in official programmes.
On April 28, PM Modi will attend the concluding event of the 50th statehood celebrations at Paljor Stadium, where he will inaugurate, launch, and lay foundation stones for several initiatives. He is expected to address the gathering during the visit.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will explore the Orchidarium in Gangtok, which developers have built as a global-standard Orchid Experience Centre. The facility highlights Sikkim’s diverse flora and aims to attract eco-tourism.
In the health sector, the Prime Minister will initiate the construction of a 100-bed Ayurveda hospital in Yangang and open a 30-bed Integrated Sowa Rigpa Hospital in Deorali.
In education, PM Modi will launch the permanent campus of Sikkim University along with facilities at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose University of Excellence, Helen Lepcha Medical College, and Dentam Professional College.
Additional projects include new schools, a model degree college, and digital infrastructure upgrades across 160 schools.
To improve transport links, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation for two steel arch bridges over the Teesta River and inaugurate a key roadway connecting Birdhang and Namchi. He will also commission upgraded electricity distribution systems in Gangtok.
Authorities will also introduce urban projects such as administrative complexes, housing schemes, and residential quarters for police personnel, and they will lay the foundation for a Sadhbhav Mandap. They will also launch several tourism and environmental projects, including redevelopment works in Gangtok, eco-tourism infrastructure, and pollution control measures, and they will enhance facilities linked to the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate an agro-processing plant aimed at increasing farmers’ income and boosting local industries.

The visit represents a major step in Sikkim’s development journey and reflects the Centre’s focus on balanced and sustainable growth in the Northeast.
