Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stones for two Bio-CNG plants in Gujarat’s Tharad and Radhanpur from Bhildi in Banaskantha district on October 30.
The proposed facilities will process 175 metric tonnes of cattle dung daily, with capacities of 75 tonnes in Tharad and 100 tonnes in Radhanpur.
Their addition will increase the number of Bio-CNG plants operated by Banas Dairy to six.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi and Assembly Speaker and Banas Dairy chairman Shankar Chaudhary will attend the event.
Banas Dairy’s four existing plants collectively process approximately 340 metric tonnes of cattle dung every day. The two new facilities will raise the combined capacity to 515 tonnes.
Banaskantha has an estimated livestock population of 28 lakh, including around 24 lakh animals owned by farmers associated with Banas Dairy. These animals generate approximately 24,000 metric tonnes of dung daily.
Banas Dairy began producing compressed biogas in 2020 at its Dama village facility, which processes 40 tonnes of dung daily.
It subsequently established three 100-tonne-capacity plants at Agthala, Bhukhla and Vinchhivadi with Suzuki Motor Corporation and the National Dairy Development Board.
The four operational plants can produce around 6,150 kg of Bio-CNG, 83 tonnes of solid organic fertiliser and 260 tonnes of liquid fertiliser daily.
Banas Dairy purchases cattle dung from livestock farmers, providing supplementary income. It sells Bio-CNG as vehicle fuel at subsidised rates and also markets the resulting fertilisers under the brand name ‘Bhumi Amrut’.
According to the cooperative’s estimates, all six plants will prevent 33,400–34,600 tonnes of carbon emissions annually by converting dung into useful products and reducing methane emissions.
