Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Jharkhand on 2 October, commemorating Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, where he will unveil the ‘Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan’ in Hazaribagh.
This initiative aims to boost the socio-economic development of tribal-dominated villages, providing much-needed support to uplift the tribal population across the country.
Following the launch of the scheme, the Prime Minister will also deliver the closing address at the BJP’s ‘Parivartan Yatra’ rally, marking a significant moment in the party’s statewide campaign in Jharkhand.
This marks PM Modi’s second visit to the state in a little over two weeks, having previously visited Jamshedpur on 15 September to inaugurate 6 Vande Bharat Express trains and lead a BJP gathering.
The visit carries additional weight as it will be the fourth instance in which PM Modi has chosen Jharkhand as the launching ground for a major national initiative.
Notable previous launches from the state include the Ayushman Bharat Yojana (2018), the Kisan Maandhan Yojana (2019), and the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra (2023).
Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan
The newly introduced ‘Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan’, approved by the Union government in September, focuses on integrating over 63,000 tribal-dominated villages across 30 states and Union Territories.
Additionally, the scheme, with a budget of Rs 79,156 crore, aims to impact over 5 crore people from tribal communities.
Among its ambitious goals are the construction of 20 lakh houses, 25,000 kilometers of rural roads, and improving access to clean drinking water, gas, and electricity.
In addition, the initiative plans to establish 100 tribal market centres, mobile health units, schools, and skill development hubs.
Cultural preservation also forms a critical part of the scheme, with a focus on maintaining tribal traditions while simultaneously boosting agricultural and horticultural activities to increase incomes.
PM Modi’s visit will begin with the launch event at the Vinoba Bhave University campus, where he is likely to interact with representatives from 33 different tribal groups across the country.
Later in the day, Modi will lead the final rally of the BJP’s ‘Parivartan Yatra’ at Gandhi Maidan in Hazaribagh.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Yatra in Sahibganj on 20 September, and it has since covered 76 of Jharkhand’s 81 Assembly constituencies.
