Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally launch the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)’s campaign for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections with a major rally at Madurantakam on Friday.
BJP state president and legislative party leader Nainar Nagenthran confirmed that the rally will be the NDA’s first significant public meeting ahead of the elections.
The rally will take place along the Chennai-Tindivanam stretch, and large crowds and volunteers from across the State are expected to attend.
Prime Minister Modi will deliver a special election speech, signalling the beginning of the NDA’s electoral battle in Tamil Nadu.
Leaders from NDA constituent parties, including the AIADMK, BJP, PMK, TMC, and AMMK, will also attend the rally.
Show of Unity Among NDA Allies
When asked about the final list of NDA partners, particularly the possible inclusion of TTV Dhinakaran’s AMMK, former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, and the DMDK, Nagenthran did not name specific parties. However, he suggested that the Madurantakam rally would present a visible show of unity.
“You can see that on the stage on January 23,” he stated, adding, “all leaders will find a place on the stage during the Prime Minister’s visit.”
Nagenthran also responded to recent exchanges between the DMK and AIADMK regarding allegations of copied election promises.
Edappadi K Palaniswami had promised Rs 1,500 monthly assistance for women and has now increased it to Rs 2,000, as he highlighted while defending the AIADMK’s manifesto.
Nagenthran said that a similar scheme does not make it a copy and emphasised that the NDA expects the people’s minds to change massively ahead of the polls.
With the Prime Minister’s participation, the NDA aims to energise supporters and consolidate its position as a formidable challenger to the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu.
