Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the inaugural Ernakulam–KSR Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express through video conferencing from Varanasi on Saturday, government officials confirmed on Friday.
This service marks Kerala’s third Vande Bharat train and the 12th pair operating within the Southern Railway network. Southern Railway authorities said the new service aims to strengthen regional connectivity and facilitate greater economic and social interaction between Kerala and Karnataka.
The Ernakulam–Bengaluru Vande Bharat is part of Indian Railways’ ongoing effort to expand semi-high-speed rail services across southern India.
Officials noted that the train will provide seamless travel for professionals, entrepreneurs, and students. It will link Ernakulam, Kerala’s commercial hub, with Bengaluru, India’s IT capital.
The train will pass through key stations including Thrissur, Palakkad, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, and Krishnarajapuram before arriving at KSR Bengaluru. Officials will organise ceremonial functions at each station and will live-stream the Prime Minister’s inauguration.
Train Details and Schedule
The inaugural special, numbered 06652, will depart Ernakulam Junction at 8 AM. It will reach KSR Bengaluru at 5.50 PM the same day.
It will feature an eight-coach Vande Bharat rake equipped with modern passenger amenities, ensuring a comfortable and efficient journey.
Elected representatives, officials, students, and members of the public will attend the ceremonies at en-route stations. Organisers will warmly welcome them at each location.
The Prime Minister’s main event at Banaras Railway Station will also see the launch of three other Vande Bharat services: Banaras–Khajuraho, Lucknow–Saharanpur, and Firozpur Cantt–Delhi.
Currently, passengers typically fully book the two pairs of Vande Bharat trains operating in Kerala on most days. Officials expect the new Ernakulam–Bengaluru service to meet growing passenger demand and strengthen transport links between southern states.
