Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two new corridors of the Delhi Metro and lay the foundation stone for projects worth more than ₹18,300 crore in the national capital on Sunday.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Prime Minister will open the Majlis Park to Maujpur-Babarpur corridor on the Pink Line and the Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park corridor on the Magenta Line. In addition, he will lay the foundation stone for three new corridors under Delhi Metro Phase-V (A).
According to the Chief Minister, the projects will significantly strengthen Delhi’s public transport infrastructure.
Providing details about the projects, Chief Minister Gupta said the metro expansion will play an important role in transforming the national capital into a truly ‘Viksit Delhi.’
She noted that expanding the metro network will improve public transport, make daily commuting easier for citizens, reduce the number of vehicles on roads, and help control pollution levels in the city.
The inauguration programme will take place at DDA Utsav Sthal-3, located in front of Nirankari Mandal.
Delhi To Get The Country’s First Ring Metro
The Majlis Park to Maujpur-Babarpur metro section is 12.3 km long and includes eight elevated stations. This corridor is part of the already operational Majlis Park–Shiv Vihar Pink Line.
With the addition of this section, the total length of the Pink Line will increase to nearly 71.56 km. This will make Delhi home to the country’s first fully operational Ring Metro.
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for three additional corridors aimed at improving connectivity across the capital.
The Central Vista Corridor from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha will be 9.913 km long and built underground. It will include nine stations: RK Ashram Marg, Shivaji Stadium, Yuge-Yugeen Bharat, Central Secretariat, Kartavya Bhavan, India Gate, War Memorial-High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam, and Indraprastha.
The corridor will provide connectivity to key landmarks, including Kartavya Bhavans, Bharat Mandapam, and the Yuge-Yugeen Bharat Museum.
Improved Connectivity Across NCR
The Golden Line extension from Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1 will be 2.263 km long and constructed underground with one new station connecting two existing stations.
Another Golden Line extension from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj will be 3.9 km long and elevated, with stations at Sarita Vihar Depot, Madanpur Khadar, and Kalindi Kunj.
Chief Minister Gupta said the new projects will also benefit residents across the National Capital Region. Commuters from Faridabad and Ballabhgarh will be able to reach Tughlakabad through the Violet Line and travel directly to Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1 via the Golden Line.
Similarly, passengers from Noida will be able to reach Kalindi Kunj through the Magenta Line and continue to the airport and various parts of South Delhi through the Golden Line.
