Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver a virtual address to the nation on 15 November during the Birsa Munda Festival in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, commemorating ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’ (Tribal Pride Day).
The occasion will honour Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the revered tribal freedom fighter whose contributions continue to inspire generations.
The celebrations will begin on 11 November and conclude on 15 November, marking Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary.
The week will feature cultural and educational programmes broadcast nationwide, highlighting tribal heritage, art, and history.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav chaired a high-level review meeting to ensure that preparations reflect the state’s deep commitment to preserving tribal identity and culture.
Across Madhya Pradesh, tribal-dominated districts will host local ‘Birsa Munda Cow Festivals’, celebrating the bond between cattle and tribal life.
These events will showcase tableaux illustrating Birsa Munda’s struggles and achievements, along with exhibitions on tribal traditions and folk art.
Performances by renowned tribal art troupes will include traditional dances, music, and crafts, offering visitors an immersive experience of indigenous culture.
Members of Parliament, MLAs, and prominent tribal leaders will actively participate, strengthening community engagement and dialogue.
A major highlight this year will be the festival’s focus on cow conservation, aligned with the theme of ‘Tribal Cow Day’, symbolising the ecological and economic significance of livestock in tribal life.
Since 2021, India has celebrated Janjatiya Gaurav Divas to recognise the sacrifices of tribal freedom fighters, including the Santhals, Tamars, Kols, Bhils, Khasis, and Mizos.
During last year’s event in Jamui, Bihar, Prime Minister Modi unveiled a commemorative coin and postal stamp in Birsa Munda’s honour and inaugurated projects worth ₹6,640 crore for tribal welfare and infrastructure development.
The Government of India declared 15 November as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’ during the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in 2021, ensuring that the contributions of tribal communities remain a celebrated part of India’s national story.
This year’s event in Jabalpur will feature seminars on tribal rights, handicraft exhibitions, and stalls serving traditional cuisine.
A senior government official stated, “The main event in Jabalpur and parallel programmes in Mandla, Dindori, and Chhindwara will engage thousands, uniting communities across the state in celebration.”
With live telecasts and digital streaming, the festival will reach audiences across India, aiming to raise awareness of tribal contributions to the freedom struggle and sustainable development.
Moreover, Authorities have ensured seamless arrangements for logistics, security, and technical coordination.
As Madhya Pradesh leads the way in honouring its tribal heroes, the Birsa Munda Festival promises to be a landmark tribute blending heritage, inclusivity, and national pride.
