PM Narendra Modi on Sunday said that the Trinamool Congress would face consequences in the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal for opposing the Women’s Reservation (Amendment) Bill in Parliament.
Addressing a rally in Darjeeling district, he said women voters would hold the party accountable, alleging that it had failed to support greater political representation for women.
The Prime Minister criticised the state government for allegedly neglecting tribal communities, claiming that their concerns and demands had remained unaddressed for years. He also accused the ruling party of prioritising political interests over constitutional values.
Referring to recent controversies, PM Modi cited the alleged insult of Droupadi Murmu during her visit to the state, stating that such incidents reflected the government’s attitude towards tribal communities. He further asserted that the BJP remained committed to empowering marginalised groups and highlighted that the country had elected its first tribal President under its leadership.
Outlining his party’s agenda, PM Modi said that if the BJP came to power in the state, it would prioritise women’s safety, welfare, and economic empowerment. He promised initiatives such as free ration for the poor, financial assistance under housing schemes, and expanded healthcare coverage through government programmes.
The Prime Minister also criticised what he described as corruption and ‘cut-money’ practices, claiming that people in the state were seeking transparent governance and development.
PM Modi concluded by expressing confidence that voters in West Bengal were increasingly placing their trust in the BJP for change and progress.
