Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed a gathering through a video message on the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mookerjee.
During the address, he said that Mookerjee’s ideology continues to serve as a guiding force for the nation’s contemporary progress.
Explaining his virtual participation due to a pre-scheduled overseas visit, the Prime Minister said, “With the help of technology, I am joining you in this historic programme.”
He paid tribute to Mookerjee and described the day as significant for both the nation and West Bengal.
PM Modi said Syama Prasad Mookerjee strongly opposed the idea of two constitutions, two prime ministers and two flags for the country, and dedicated his life to preserving India’s unity and integrity.
Referring to the events surrounding 1947, the Prime Minister said Mookerjee played a key role in preventing the entire region of Bengal from being separated from India through his political leadership and public mobilisation.
Quoting Mookerjee, he said, “As Dr Mookerjee famously stated, the foundation of a golden future can be laid only on the ground of national unity.”
Call For A Developed And Self-Reliant India
PM Modi said Mookerjee’s ideals remain relevant in addressing contemporary national challenges and added that governments committed to the principle of “Nation First” ensure national heroes receive due recognition.
Highlighting the need for innovation, talent development and economic self-reliance, he said the vision of a developed India is inspired by the same spirit championed by Mookerjee.
Addressing the youth, the Prime Minister urged them to contribute towards building a developed and self-reliant India, saying, “We have to collectively fulfil the resolution of a Developed India.”
Concluding his address, he advised people to complete every task with sincerity, stating, “Whatever work you start, do it with full seriousness and do not leave it incomplete.”
