Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India and Switzerland share democratic values, the rule of law, dialogue and diplomacy. He said both nations will work together to advance global peace and stability.

Addressing a joint press meet with Swiss President Guy Parmelin at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi called reforms in global institutions essential to tackling emerging challenges.

“India and Switzerland both believe in democratic values, rule of law, dialogue and diplomacy. We will continue to work together for global peace and stability,” Prime Minister Modi said.

He said India has consistently supported meaningful peace efforts in Ukraine and West Asia. Prime Minister Modi said both countries agree on the need to reform global institutions to meet evolving challenges.

Welcoming Parmelin, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement between India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). He described it as India’s first free trade agreement with a European economic bloc.

Prime Minister Modi said the pact targets $100 billion in investment and 10 lakh direct jobs in India over 15 years. He described India-Switzerland ties as ‘centuries-old’ and recalled Swami Vivekananda’s connection with Switzerland and Mahatma Gandhi’s time there.

Prime Minister Modi said innovation, infrastructure and advanced technology now anchor bilateral cooperation.

The leaders discussed military exchanges, defence production and nuclear energy. Prime Minister Modi said both sides agreed to deepen cooperation.

India will seek stronger market access for agricultural, pharmaceutical, textile and engineering exports. Switzerland will explore investment in biotechnology, life sciences, banking, insurance, food processing and sustainability.

Prime Minister Modi called people-to-people ties the partnership’s ‘greatest strength’. He said new mobility agreements will create opportunities for Indian students, researchers, professionals and youth.
