Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to former Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) International Working President Ashok Singhal on his birth centenary, recalling his simplicity, organisational dedication and commitment to society. PM Modi described Singhal as firm in his convictions and dedicated to social unity.
In his tribute, PM Modi recalled his long association with Singhal and described his interactions with him as a privilege. He remembered receiving a handwritten letter from Singhal in 1981, when Modi was a young organisational worker.
PM Modi said Singhal worked tirelessly for decades, travelling to remote areas and focusing on people living on the margins of society. He also recalled Singhal’s role in relief efforts following natural disasters, including the 2001 Kutch earthquake.

The Prime Minister said Singhal came from a prosperous family but chose to dedicate his life to social and cultural causes. He recalled how Singhal’s childhood in Prayagraj, particularly his experiences at the Sangam, shaped his understanding of India’s cultural traditions.
PM Modi highlighted Singhal’s organisational skills, powerful oratory and close association with religious leaders and fellow workers. He also recalled his role in organising international Hindu conferences, including events in the US and Trinidad and Tobago.

PM Modi recalled Singhal’s role in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and his emphasis on social harmony, equality and dignity. He also highlighted Singhal’s interest in Vedic education, music and reading.
PM Modi said Singhal combined spiritual, cultural and organisational work and urged young people to learn from his life and contributions.
