PM Modi Regrets Women’s Bill Failure At Coimbatore Rally

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed regret over the failure to pass the Women’s Reservation Bill while addressing a major election rally in Coimbatore, stepping up the National Democratic Alliance campaign ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls.

With campaigning set to close on Tuesday, political activity has intensified across the State.

PM Modi, who held a roadshow in Nagercoil on April 15, continued his outreach in Coimbatore with a public meeting at the CODISSIA Grounds around 6 PM after arriving via a roadshow that drew large crowds. The rally saw the presence of Edappadi K Palaniswami and leaders from allied parties.

During his speech, PM Modi introduced NDA candidates from Coimbatore, Tiruppur, and the Nilgiris, expressing confidence that the alliance would secure victory in Tamil Nadu and defeat the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

Highlighting the stalled Women’s Reservation Bill, PM Modi termed its failure disappointing and said it was a missed opportunity to enhance women’s participation in politics, particularly for those from ordinary backgrounds.

The Prime Minister attributed the setback to opposition from the DMK and its ally, the Indian National Congress, accusing them of divisive politics. He also described Tamil Nadu as a crucial contributor to India’s economic growth.

PM Modi criticised the DMK government over allegations of family dominance and lack of transparency, contrasting it with the NDA’s leadership model. He further raised corruption allegations, including irregularities linked to the TASMAC liquor network, and assured action if the NDA comes to power.

The Prime Minister also accused the DMK of targeting Coimbatore for political reasons and urged women voters to question the ruling party over the stalled legislation.
