PM Modi Praises Radio As Trusted Medium Linking Rural And Urban India On World Radio Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday commended radio for its sustained importance, describing it as a reliable channel that links people from rural heartlands to metropolitan centres.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “World Radio Day is about celebrating a medium that is a trusted voice for people, be it in remote villages or bustling cities. For years, the radio has delivered timely information, amplified talent and encouraged creativity. This is a day to acknowledge the efforts of all those associated with this medium.”

“Through #MannKiBaat, I have experienced the potential of the radio firsthand in bringing out the societal strength of our people. This month’s programme will take place on Sunday, 22nd February. Do share your inputs for the programme,” the post further read.

In India, All India Radio continues to play a pivotal role as a public service broadcaster.

Operating over 400 stations across the country, it covers nearly 92 per cent of India’s geographical expanse and reaches more than 99 per cent of the population.

AIR delivers content in 23 languages and 146 dialects, reflecting the nation’s vast cultural diversity.

Radio remains an economical and inclusive tool of communication, especially valuable for remote regions and marginalised communities. It offers a platform for dialogue that transcends literacy levels and socio-economic barriers.

By fostering informed discussion and civic engagement, radio reinforces democratic values and social cohesion.

The Prime Minister’s World Radio Day message reaffirmed the medium’s enduring relevance in India’s evolving communication ecosystem.
