In India, All India Radio continues to play a pivotal role as a public service broadcaster.
Operating over 400 stations across the country, it covers nearly 92 per cent of India’s geographical expanse and reaches more than 99 per cent of the population.
AIR delivers content in 23 languages and 146 dialects, reflecting the nation’s vast cultural diversity.
Radio remains an economical and inclusive tool of communication, especially valuable for remote regions and marginalised communities. It offers a platform for dialogue that transcends literacy levels and socio-economic barriers.
By fostering informed discussion and civic engagement, radio reinforces democratic values and social cohesion.
The Prime Minister’s World Radio Day message reaffirmed the medium’s enduring relevance in India’s evolving communication ecosystem.
