PV Narasimha Rao served as Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister from 1971 to 1973 before becoming India’s ninth Prime Minister, leading the country from 1991 to 1996 during a period of significant economic and political challenges.
Widely regarded as the architect of India’s economic liberalisation, Rao introduced sweeping reforms that dismantled the Licence Raj, opened the economy to global markets and laid the foundation for sustained economic growth.
PV Narasimha Rao’s tenure also witnessed major advancements in foreign policy, strategic affairs and governance, including the ‘Look East’ policy, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to shape India’s economic development and global standing.
