Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a heartfelt tribute to Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on his birth anniversary, referring to him as a ‘Rashtra Ratna’ (national gem) before he became ‘Rashtrapati’ (President).
In a message posted on social media, PM Modi described Kalam as a symbol of humility and perseverance who continues to ignite minds across generations.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Remembering Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Ji on his birth anniversary. He is remembered as a visionary who ignited young minds and inspired our nation to dream big. His life reminds us that humility and hard work are vital for success. May we continue to build the India he envisioned…an India that is strong, self-reliant and compassionate.”
In a video tribute, PM Modi reflected on Kalam’s enduring legacy, “Abdul Kalam’s life is so meaningful and profound that it fills us with pride to remember him. However, it also brings a sense of longing for his presence among us,” he said. “His blessings and teachings will continue to guide us.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed Kalam as a ‘scientific genius’ who elevated India’s defence and technological capabilities.
“A scientific genius, Kalam Ji elevated our nation’s prowess in science, defence and technological innovations to unprecedented heights with his unwavering patriotism and the principle of India First,” Shah wrote on X.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described Kalam as a ‘visionary scientist, inspirational leader and a true patriot’, adding that his commitment to self-reliance and innovation continues to inspire India’s youth.
Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha remembered him as ‘a man of simplicity, wisdom, and perseverance’, while Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma paid tribute to Kalam’s unmatched contribution to national security and scientific development.
Born into a modest Tamil Muslim family in Rameswaram, Dr Kalam sold newspapers in his early years to support his family.
Through sheer dedication and brilliance, he rose to become one of India’s most respected scientists and served as the 11th President of India.
Popularly known as the ‘Missile Man of India’, Kalam played a pivotal role in the development of India’s missile and nuclear weapons programmes.
His contribution to the 1998 Pokhran-II nuclear tests was instrumental in positioning India as a nuclear power.
He served as President from 2002 to 2007, earning the title of ‘People’s President’ for his approachability and focus on youth and education.
However, Dr Kalam’s ideals of nation-building, education, and integrity continue to guide India’s progress.
His birth anniversary serves as a reminder of his enduring message: dream big, stay grounded, and work relentlessly for the greater good of the nation.
