The Life and Legacy of the ‘Missile Man of India’
Born into a modest Tamil Muslim family in Rameswaram, Dr Kalam sold newspapers in his early years to support his family.
Through sheer dedication and brilliance, he rose to become one of India’s most respected scientists and served as the 11th President of India.
Popularly known as the ‘Missile Man of India’, Kalam played a pivotal role in the development of India’s missile and nuclear weapons programmes.
His contribution to the 1998 Pokhran-II nuclear tests was instrumental in positioning India as a nuclear power.
He served as President from 2002 to 2007, earning the title of ‘People’s President’ for his approachability and focus on youth and education.
However, Dr Kalam’s ideals of nation-building, education, and integrity continue to guide India’s progress.
His birth anniversary serves as a reminder of his enduring message: dream big, stay grounded, and work relentlessly for the greater good of the nation.
