He noted that their ideals of justice, patriotism and fearless resistance continue to ignite the spirit of countless Indians.
PM Modi noted that despite their youth, the trio displayed remarkable courage and unwavering commitment to India’s freedom struggle. He emphasised that they chose the path of sacrifice, placing the nation above their own lives.
British authorities executed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar and Shivaram Rajguru on 23 March 1931 in Lahore jail, an act that intensified the movement against colonial rule. Their actions and sacrifice transformed them into enduring symbols of patriotism.
As members of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association, the trio sought to avenge the death of Lala Lajpat Rai. This effort led to the killing of British officer John Saunders in 1928.
They later carried out a symbolic bombing in the Central Legislative Assembly to protest colonial policies.
Their revolutionary actions, driven by socialist ideals, aimed to awaken the masses and intensify resistance against British rule. Today, their legacy continues to resonate as a powerful reminder of courage, sacrifice and the enduring quest for freedom.
