The verse comes from the Shakradi Stuti, also known as Indrakrit Stuti, in the fourth chapter of the Sri Durga Saptashati. According to Hindu tradition, Indra and other gods offered these prayers after Goddess Durga defeated the demon Mahishasura, restoring their confidence and freeing them from his threat.
The prayer celebrates the divine feminine power believed to sustain and govern the universe.
Devotees also recite it during religious observances seeking peace, prosperity and collective well-being.
In a separate post, PM Modi highlighted the significance of the second day of Navratri, dedicated to Maa Brahmacharini, the second manifestation of Goddess Durga.
He prayed for her blessings, particularly for courage, determination and self-control, and shared a YouTube link to ‘Chamundi Songs’ as part of his festival-related messages.

Maa Brahmacharini symbolises penance, devotion, patience and self-discipline. Hindu tradition links her to Goddess Parvati’s austerities and determination to marry Lord Shiva.
On Navratri’s second day, devotees seek her blessings for wisdom, perseverance, spiritual growth and strength. They offer flowers, bhog and prayers while chanting mantras. White symbolises purity and peace, while sugar or mishri is commonly offered as prasad.
PM Modi’s messages highlighted the festival’s spiritual significance and the values of devotion and inner strength.
