Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dr Dinesh Sharma, attended the first-ever Dandiya Mahotsav at ITF Ground in Sri Vijaya Puram as the Chief Guest on the auspicious occasion of Sharadiya Navratri.
The Department of Culture, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, organised the event to mark the Hindu festival, which celebrates the nine divine forms of Maa Durga.
Dr Sharma paid his respects to the nine manifestations of the Goddess during the programme, joining the celebrations that brought cultural and religious traditions into focus.
Sharadiya Navratri holds deep religious significance for devotees, who worship Maa Durga in her nine forms over nine days.
The festival also brings communities together through prayers, cultural programmes, music and traditional dance.
Dandiya, a popular folk dance associated with Navratri celebrations, provides an opportunity for people to participate in festive gatherings while preserving cultural traditions.
The first edition of the Dandiya Mahotsav highlighted the Department of Culture’s role in organising cultural events across the island territory.
By bringing traditional festivities to ITF Ground, the programme offered a platform to celebrate the region’s cultural life during an important religious occasion.
Dr Sharma’s participation as Chief Guest underscored the significance of Navratri and the celebration of Maa Durga’s nine divine forms.
The event formed part of the Sharadiya Navratri festivities in Sri Vijaya Puram, bringing religious devotion and cultural celebration together in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
