Delhi-NCR Wakes Up To Heavy Rain; IMD Issues Red Alert Across All 11 Districts

Heavy rain and thunderstorms lashed Delhi on Monday morning, October 12, bringing a dip in temperatures and causing waterlogging in several areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert across all 11 districts of the national capital, warning residents of intense rainfall, lightning and strong winds.

The alert covers Central, East, New, North, North East, North West, South, South East, South West and West Delhi, as well as Shahdara.

The IMD warned of heavy rain, lightning and winds reaching 60 kmph. The downpour brought temporary relief, but partly cloudy skies are expected in the coming days.

The maximum temperature on October 13 is likely to range between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum could remain between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius.

On October 14, the maximum temperature may rise to 33–35 degrees Celsius, with minimum readings expected to remain between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius.

The IMD has forecast partly cloudy skies without rain from October 15 to 17, with maximum temperatures of 31–35 degrees Celsius and minimums of 22–25 degrees Celsius.

The department warned that heavy rain could disrupt traffic, flood low-lying areas and increase accident risks. It advised commuters to check traffic updates and avoid waterlogged roads.

Delhi’s maximum temperatures fell by 1–2 degrees Celsius over the previous 24 hours, ranging between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures remained stable at 21–24 degrees Celsius.

Residents should remain cautious during thunderstorms, particularly while travelling, as lightning, strong winds and waterlogged roads could create hazardous conditions during the morning commute.
