PM Modi Meets Mark Carney At Hyderabad House; Reviews Strategic Partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney at Hyderabad House in New Delhi for delegation-level talks aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.

The meeting marked a significant step in advancing the India–Canada Strategic Partnership at a crucial phase in the normalisation of relations between the two countries.

The two leaders reviewed progress achieved across diverse sectors and outlined the next phase of cooperation.

The leaders discussed trade and investment, energy, critical minerals, agriculture, education, research, innovation and people-to-people ties. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues.

Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Carney will attend the India–Canada CEOs Forum to boost economic collaboration and private sector engagement.

Both have agreed to pursue a balanced partnership based on mutual respect and growing economic complementarities.

At the G20 Summit in November 2025, Prime Minister Modi set a USD 50 billion bilateral trade target for 2030. The current talks aim to accelerate progress towards that goal.

Earlier, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Carney and praised his commitment to a forward-looking partnership.

Accompanied by his wife, Diana Fox Carney, he is on his first official visit to India from February 27 to March 2, arriving in Mumbai before travelling to New Delhi.

In Mumbai, Carney met business leaders and Canadian pension fund representatives, calling India the world’s fastest-growing major economy and emphasising partnerships in energy, innovation, talent, and AI.

His visit and meeting with Prime Minister Modi reinforce positive momentum in India–Canada relations and signal a shared resolve to deepen strategic cooperation.
