Kharge Condemns Killing Of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Extends Solidarity To People Of Iran

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has unequivocally condemned the targeted assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a military strike carried out by the United States and Israeli forces, calling the act unacceptable and carried out without a formal declaration of war.

The statement reflects deep political concern over the use of force to eliminate a sovereign nation’s leadership and highlights broader unease in New Delhi over the dramatic escalation in West Asia.

Kharge also extended the Congress party’s deepest condolences to Khamenei’s family, the people of Iran, and the global Shia community, expressing solidarity amid profound grief.

Emphasis On India’s Foreign Policy Principles

In outlining the party’s position, Kharge reaffirmed that India’s foreign policy is rooted in the peaceful settlement of disputes through dialogue and respect for international law, principles enshrined in the country’s Constitution and longstanding diplomatic doctrines.

He stressed that sovereign equality, non-intervention, and the promotion of peace remain central to India’s approach to global conflicts, with historic doctrines such as vasudhaiva kutumbakam and non-violence informing the nation’s worldview.

The Congress leader also cautioned against the resurgence of doctrines aimed at regime change through force, warning that such actions undermine the United Nations Charter and the traditional norms of international relations.

He reiterated that no external power has the authority to engineer political outcomes in other sovereign states, describing such interventions as fundamentally incompatible with a rules-based international order.

The targeted killing of Khamenei has drawn strong reactions worldwide, with various political leaders, governments, and civil society groups commenting on its implications for regional stability and international law.
