Baisakhi, also known as Vaisakhi, is observed annually in mid-April and marks the beginning of the month of Vaisakh in the traditional solar calendar. It is widely celebrated as a harvest festival, particularly in Punjab and northern India, and is associated with the onset of the spring harvest season.
The festival holds deep historical and religious importance as it commemorates the formation of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699, a defining moment in Sikh history. Over time, it has also been recognised as a day marking the Indian solar new year in several regions.
Apart from its agricultural significance, Baisakhi is celebrated through community gatherings, visits to gurdwaras, processions, fairs and cultural events.
The occasion reflects themes of gratitude, renewal and collective harmony. It continues to be an important cultural milestone across different parts of the country.
