Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch an ambitious three-nation diplomatic tour next week, beginning with Jordan and continuing through Ethiopia and Oman, marking one of New Delhi’s most strategically calibrated outreach efforts of the year. The visits aim to reinforce India’s influence across West Asia and Africa, strengthen partnerships in the Global South, and advance New Delhi’s long-term geopolitical and economic agenda.
PM Modi will land in Jordan on December 15 at the invitation of King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein. During his two-day stay, he will engage in a detailed review of India-Jordan relations and exchange strategic assessments on key regional developments.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted that the visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties, offering a pivotal moment to deepen political trust, expand economic cooperation, and reinforce India’s support for regional peace and stability.
Jordan, situated at the heart of West Asia’s conflict geography, remains a vital partner for India’s security, energy, and geopolitical interests. New Delhi and Amman are expected to discuss counterterrorism cooperation, defence dialogue, trade opportunities, and new avenues in technology and capacity-building.
Strategic Ties, Trade, Security, Stability & Growth
On December 16, PM Modi will fly to Ethiopia for his first-ever visit to the African nation, responding to an invitation from Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali. Ethiopia, one of Africa’s fastest-changing political and economic landscapes, has emerged as a key partner in India’s Africa strategy.
The MEA highlighted that the two leaders will hold wide-ranging talks on bilateral cooperation spanning trade, development partnerships, agriculture, digital public infrastructure, education, and capacity building.
As two major voices of the Global South, India and Ethiopia are expected to reaffirm their shared commitment to multipolarity, equitable global governance, and South-South solidarity.
New Delhi’s development footprint in Ethiopia already includes healthcare, ICT, power generation, and skill development projects, which are likely to receive further impetus.
The final leg of the tour will take PM Modi to Oman from December 17 to 18 at the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
India and Oman share a centuries-old relationship anchored in maritime connectivity, civilizational ties, and robust people-to-people exchanges.
The visit marks 70 years of diplomatic relations and follows the Sultan’s state visit to India last year.
Both sides will undertake a comprehensive review of cooperation in trade, energy security, defence exchanges, renewable energy, technology, agriculture, and cultural links.
With over 700,000 Indians living and working in Oman, the bilateral relationship also carries strong socioeconomic significance.
The visit will also reinforce the strategic partnership that has become central to India’s role in the Indian Ocean Region.
This will be PM Modi’s second visit to Oman, underscoring the country’s importance in India’s West Asia policy and its broader Indo-Pacific vision.
