Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of development projects worth around ₹18,800 crore in Surat, marking a major boost to Gujarat’s infrastructure and economic development.
The projects cover transport, healthcare, power distribution, industrial infrastructure and urban development, reinforcing Surat’s importance as a key economic and industrial centre.
Among the major initiatives, the Prime Minister dedicated important sections of the eight-lane access-controlled Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway to the nation.
The project will improve high-speed connectivity between Gujarat and Maharashtra while enhancing logistics and trade across western India.
PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for the four-laning of key stretches of National Highway-56.
The project will improve road connectivity in tribal regions and strengthen access to the Statue of Unity corridor, supporting regional development and tourism.
In the power sector, the Prime Minister inaugurated infrastructure projects aimed at expanding transmission capacity and improving Gujarat’s ability to evacuate electricity through the national grid. These upgrades are expected to enhance power reliability and support growing industrial demand.
Healthcare infrastructure received a significant boost with the inauguration of a 200-bed Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospital in Surat.
The facility will provide secondary healthcare services, including emergency treatment, diagnostic support, trauma care and specialised medical services for workers and their families.
PM Modi reviewed industrial operations and infrastructure projects in Hazira, a key hub for heavy engineering, manufacturing and defence production. He assessed expansion plans focused on improving efficiency, connectivity and environmental standards.
The projects form part of a broader development push involving investments of over ₹20,000 crore and will strengthen mobility, healthcare, industry and power infrastructure. They also reinforce Surat’s position as a key industrial hub in India’s western economic corridor.
