Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an engaging interaction with tribal students from Gujarat’s Devmogra during his annual Pariksha Pe Charcha. He discussed education, mental well-being, career decisions and the contribution of tribal communities to the country’s progress.
Students from tribal regions welcomed the Prime Minister in their native language and expressed delight at seeing him wear a jacket adorned with their traditional folk art.
One student shared their excitement, saying, “We are very excited to meet you, Sir. Everyone wants to meet you at least once and interact with you, and we feel honoured to have had that opportunity today.”
During the discussion, the Prime Minister recalled his earlier interactions with students from the region, including Jai and Avi from Mandvi in 2022.
Responding to a question on his inspiration to work for tribal development, he referred to his experiences during the Pal-Chitariya event and hardships such as famine faced by tribal communities.
“The tribal community’s freedom was a significant event and involved many struggles. There was a terrible famine once, and I spent a lot of time working there. That made me realise the importance of focusing on education, and when I became CM, I knew attention had to be given to it,” he said.
Highlighting progress in infrastructure, he noted, “You would be surprised to know that there was no science school from Umbergaon to Ambaji. Now, many educational institutions benefit the students the most.”
He added, “Education is very important for growth, and strong infrastructure is the foundation for long-term development.”
Students also sought advice on handling exam pressure.
Encouraging practice over anxiety, the Prime Minister said, “Recall the earlier exams… The best thing for exams is to practice by writing, not just reading.”
He further advised, “Laugh and sleep to freshen up your mind.”
On career choices, he urged students to follow their aspirations, telling them, “Learn to live in accordance with your dreams.”
The Prime Minister underlined the importance of tribal culture. He accepted a Pithora Art painting from tribal artist Kishan Janabhai Rathava.
PM Modi also highlighted the role of parents and teachers in shaping lives. Speaking on nation-building, he said tribal communities enrich India’s progress.
The interaction concluded with students performing tribal songs, leaving them inspired by the exchange.
